Sea of Galilee Tilapia – Stories by Sea of Galilee boat Captain Judah
Here is my story about the famous Sea of Galilee Tilapia fish: At the second century there were a few types of fish the Galilee fishermen used to catch. The famous one is the Galilee Tilapia.
The Galilee Tilapia is a tropical fish and usaully lives around warm water. During the winter time the fish live in the north west of the Sea of Galilee – a place with underwater hot springs. It is the most popular fish to eat in the Holy Land.
The tilapia is also named St. Peter’s fish. The name comes from a story in the gospel of St. Matthew: When Peter returns home, Jesus tells him to go fishing — “go to the sea and cast a hook; take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a coin; take that and give it to them for you and me”. (Matthew 17:24-27)
There are few more types of fish in the Sea of Galilee such as Sardines, Carp, and Catfish – not kosher fish because it has no scales.
Jesus Calls Peter and Andrew (Matthew 4:18-22)
18 Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee. He saw two brothers. They were Simon (his other name was Peter) and Andrew, his brother. They were putting a net into the sea for they were fishermen. 19 Jesus said to them, “Follow Me. I will make you fish for men!” 20 At once they left their nets and followed Him.
21 Going from there, Jesus saw two other brothers. They were James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were sitting in a boat with their father, mending their nets. Jesus called them. 22 At once they left the boat and their father and followed Jesus.
